Gin is often and ultimately a flavored vodka with juniper and botanicals. Gin Mare however actually claims to distill their spirit from things like Olives – and Thyme and Rosemary, even Basil. That has resulted in a gin that feels like a premixed cocktail.
Overall this is likely to become yet another gin that while not awful – simply doesn’t have enough going on. The taste could be better, the mixing could be better, the price could be better. By not having enough aspects to shine it lacks a purpose.
What they Say: “The authentic Mediterranean”Gin Mare” is made in a custom designed still by blending individual distillations of arbequina olives, thyme, rosemary, basil, cardamom, coriander and juniper berries gathered from our own farms and citrus fruits, soaked in advance for more than a year in special large clay jars. ”
Taste: 4.0 – That is an entire thing. Right off the bat, it’s easy to say that this martini style gin doesn’t need any olives or vermouth as it tastes like one already.
Aftertaste: 4.0 – That olive and vermouth like taste simply continue on sadly. Don’t get us wrong – nothing bad about a martini, but you want this to be versatile.
Burn/Smooth: 6.0 – There’s a hint of burn, and the other flavoring here makes it not a smooth drinker. That being said it’s smooth.
Aroma: 9.0 – There’s juniper, there’s spice, and there’s even a nice refreshing citrus smell. Overall this is likely to be the high point of this gin because it smells amazing.
Honesty: 7.0 – The bottle shape is well done, the cap is heavy and ready to kill, and the text isn’t as wanky. They essentially go through the process and considering how many of those flavors actually show up the party it’s not a bad mark.
Mixability: 6.75
Gin and Tonic: 5.0 – You certainly don’t lose the flavor when putting this with tonic. However, the mixture of the more Olive-like flavor here isn’t entirely ideal.
Martini: 8.5 – Ahh, we come to the party piece. You put this in the freezer just a bit before consuming and toss it into a Martini glass – with little to no extra work – and you will find a happy martini drinker.
Value: 3.0 – Oh no, no no no, no. That is far too much for a good martini. We are all about the fact that sometimes a spirit is meant to be bought and paid extra for the right drink – but no.

Final Thoughts: This gin is awful. It has all the markings and enough of the quality to make it almost seem like it can justify being a high-quality product, but it’s not. If you need a martini gin well at least this makes it easy for you.
