Christmas time has come and gone once again, and once again a scotch has been gifted to the lounge. Sadly however it’s not a scotch as it’s been tainted by the wicked evil magic that is sherry. We’ve long been opponents of sherry aged scotches, but the recent trend of finishing in sherry has revived our hopes and can often be enjoyable. That is not the case here.

St. Bernardus ‘Prior 8’
Prior 8: 5.0 – It’s a nice brown Belgian ale and there a nut and banana flavor. But its mediocre overall, and for a big belgian import you expect more.
Price Average: $11

Bayou Select Spiced Rum 750mL
We here are big fans of Louisana. Any place with that much impact on food and music culture (and is actually good) is something we can wholeheartedly stand by. This rum, however, we wouldn’t stand by from the first sign of a light breeze. If you ever wondered what happens when you lean into the sugar cane too far – you’ve arrived.
Cambridge Brewing Company Wake up the Sun Belgium Saison
Wake up the Sun: 6.0 – It is a bit like a sour and there is a long bittersweet like aftertaste. Overall it fits the ideal of a sun shiny beer.
Price Average: $11
Mystic Brewery “Mary of the Gael” Spring Saison
Mary of the Gael: 7.5 – It is simply a delicious farmhouse ale. No faults, lots of easy flavors, and a nice balance of spice citrus and hops.
Price Average: $12

Bluecoat American Dry Gin 750mL
We’re back again on our American gin fix. Last time it was Dorothy Parker in NY, now we head a bit south to Philly, and a bit back to revolutionary times. (Both gins are made by modern recipes and such, but whatever). For a slightly overproof and pretty bottle though is the bluecoats better than the redcoats?
Thomas Hardy’s Ale (2017 Vintage)
Thomas Hardy’s Ale: 1.0 – That is like if a british bitter and a porter fucked on a couch made of stale beer and cigarettes. It is horrible. It’s thick and unpleasant, and basically has all that toffee/caramel business in the worst way. It’s like what would hapopen if you burnt the sugar somehow in a bourbon barrel aged beer.
Price Average: $8

Cedar Ridge Iowa Bourbon Whiskey 750mL
We really do like when companies such as Cedar Ridge take the step from being things like a winery or brewery or pub and branch out into the spirits game. That being said at the top let’s get into why this small batch bottle of ‘bourbon’ isn’t exactly what we had in mind.
