This rum has wounded me. As you will likely tell from the breakdowns this isn’t a particularly good rum and for me I hoped to try and whittle away at it by putting into some Strawberry Kiwi juice. This worked, but every time I partook of this I ended up with terrible headaches. It’s gone now, and for that I am grateful.
The rum itself seems like exactly the kind of thing you’d find in a cheap dinky tiki bar in a place that has no business having a tiki bar. Being made from sugar canes makes this in my mind a harsher rum that it needs to be, and I wish they had put some aging or molasses in this to mellow it out.
What they Say: “Our super premium rum is hand-crafted by Sammy’s award-winning master distiller on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Using the first pressing of virgin Maui sugar cane we craft one of the finest rums in the world. To fully appreciate the quality, start with a taste before enjoying it chilled, on the rocks, or to enhance any cocktail – one sip and you’ll surrender.”
Taste: 6.0 – It’s a bit sweet at first, you get a lot more of a sugary element here. I like this.
Aftertaste: 5.0 – It says rum, but being a cane rum this is more akin to a cachaca, and boy does it show in aftertaste. However it’s taste is marred by burn. I also am not huge on the lingering taste.
Burn/Smooth: 2.5 – This burns like eating a dose of salt water when you get tossed by the ocean.
Aroma: 4.0 – It smells plant-like somehow – not floral though. Overall it smells sugary in the way cereal does. Not exactly a strong showing.
Honesty: 5.5 – No lies, and the bottle looks the right amount of tropical without being too Eurotrashy – so points there. Add a cork and some Hawaiian named Sammy making this – and it still feels like bullshit.
Mixability: 5.25
W/ Rocks: 5.5 – I did this only based on their recommendation. It cuts some of the burn, but I’m still not huge on it.
Rum and Coke: 5.0 – I mean it’s okay, but I feel like it’s meant for more tropical fare.
Value: 4.5 – While that price is not too high, it’s still not really a good value for this.

Final Thoughts: I know my personal review may be a bit harsh on this, but overall this is purely just subpar in sadly just every way. (Aside from some initial sweetness), but with a rum that burns, isn’t manly in any way, doesn’t mix spectacularly and isn’t good value? I mean what’s there to love?
