Brockmans Premium Gin 750mL

Well it’s certainly distinctive, I’ll give ’em that. It’s time for another British gin on HBR, and it’s a good thing I review by name and not by actual flavoring. I say this because at booze review we don’t do flavored spirits (there’s too much variance and types to establish a solid baseline for a true score). However if this was a blind taste test – I’d likely chide you for giving me some berry vodka.

I understand that some of the audience will cry – but Juniper berries! – to which I say simmer down youngling as while juniper may be a berry – it’s taste is very unique and not akin to it’s black, blue, and wild brothers. This though in a cocktail tastes like when I use a Mio or something to make a berry/pomegranate G&T – which while not a bad thing – we still have to rate it against other gins.

What they Say: “A unique blend of botanicals with subtle notes of berry given an intensely smooth taste to this beautifully made gin.”

Taste: 6.0 – Much like the aroma this tastes kind of like a weird juice flavor to the point where I had to check multiple times it was not flavored. I don’t hate it though but weird as shit, and sadly not as ‘gin’ flavored.

Aftertaste: 5.5– It pretty much continues the taste although it does go down a bit with some more ethanol flavoring.

Burn/Smooth: 7.0 – That doesn’t actually burn that much, so kudo points there. I guess that’s why it’s ‘intensely smooth’.

Aroma: 6.0 – That smells like, strawberry kiwi or berry pomegranate  juice? It’s got a more floral and fruity kind of smell to it. I like it, but it’s not what I want from a gin smell.

Honesty: 7.0 – Subtle notes of berry? Overall the bottle is classy as fuck, and they don’t do much to hurt themselves. Therefore they do quite well here.

Mixability: 6.25

Gin and Tonic: 7.0 – I actually really like that gin and tonic. The berry aspect works well here.

Red Baron: 5.5 – That kind of works, but I’m not huge on it.

Value: 4.0 – I feel like you could get a berry flavored vodka and be better off here. And this despite looks is not a martini gin.

Final Thoughts: Overall I’m happy with my purchase in the sense that this is already gone, but when I bought this gin I was looking for a martini maker. Now though I must try once again to see if a new gin is up to the job. As for you kind folks at home – if you find this on sale or particularly want it in your bar – it’s not a bad idea.
