We’ve previously had the silver version of this (uhh checks the math) 4 years ago. Yikes, this blog got long in the tooth. Anyway, we were not kind to the Silver Jimador, because it has a taste like some hospital floor cleaner, and make no mistake the aging has not fully removed that – but enough to make something drinkable at last.
Overall this brings it from a kinda crappy tequila into the realm of an okay tequila – and who knows if they have an anejo that might finally be good. Overall this isn’t a great tasting beverage, but at least it can make a halfway decent margarita without breaking the bank.
What they Say: “In honor of the man who with pride, determination and courage, has mastered the art of selecting and harvesting the best blue agaves, we name out tequila: El Jimador”
Taste: 4.0 – Like the silver, it too is nice and clean to start but with a slightly medicinal flavor to it.
Aftertaste: 4.0 – Thankfully the aftertaste isn’t terrible. Oh sure it’s not nearly as tasty as it should be, but it’s fine.
Burn/Smooth: 6.0 – A flash of smoke/burn, but overall it’s pretty smooth and has a nice backend warmth to it.
Aroma: 8.0 – Some agave, some citrus, it’s light but still present. A tiny bit sweet, but the right amount. Overall it just smells delicious. It could be a bit more power so you don’t need to dig in, but still.
Honesty: 5.0 – Again like the silver this is the same text – while not helpful this at least does more to honor a man than the unaged spirit. Not sure if there’s some poetry in that sentiment, but it does better here.
Mixability: 5.5
W/ Rocks: 5.0 – While the bit of ice improves it, it’s not by much.
Margarita: 6.0 – That’s again fine enough. It’s what you would mostly use this for, but it’s not wild or great or any other word.
Value: 5.0 – That price point is pretty much spot on for what you’d expect to pay here. Yes making it a few dollars more would earn some praise to make this a fine alternative budget tequila – instead, it’s just average.

Final Thoughts: A bit of aging and the point jumps 2 points – let that be a lesson – fix your shit if the words medicinal are mentioned in a non-gin review. Also maybe things get better with age.
