Grainger’s Deluxe Vodka 750mL

Happy memorial day folks, in honor of the American holiday we figured we should get something all American. However much like a lot of stuff going on in America right now, this is just really not as good as we’d like it to be. Hey, at least it’s gluten-free and organic because that’s what we look for in juice that makes you vomit among other bad decisions.

To pre-empt their text, nothing about this is a smooth and enjoyable experience. It’s like a kitty cat’s tongue – you’d expect like much of its fluffy self that it licking you is adorable – but no it’s harsh and kinda terrible. The problem here is that this is neither a neat vodka nor a good mixing vodka – and for the price, we were really kinda hoping.

What they Say: “Distilled 7 Times. Gluten Free. Grainger’s Deluxe Vodka is 100% American Made. Crafted from organic corn, yeast, and water in the country’s heartland, this vodka is distilled 7 times to deliver a smooth, enjoyable experience.”

Taste: 4.0 – There’s an almost wheat like flavor despite it being corn based, but it’s overall not a super tasty vodka.

Aftertaste: 3.0 – The vodka really hits you here and that taste is not ideal by any measure.

Burn/Smooth: 2.0 – That burns in waves, and it’s terrible,

Aroma: 7.0 – It’s inoffensive. It’s not creamy and delicious smelling. Nor is it nonexistent, but it is neutral, and not heavily alcohol smelling. Which is overall very good.

Honesty: 3.0 – Don’t matter if it’s seven times, as our good colleague would mention it’s the distillation column that counts no the number of times. Overall no major faults until we hit the word smooth. Then we have to gauge it accordingly.

Mixability: 4.33

Russian: 3.0 – There’s a twinge to this Russian that makes you winge. It’s not stellar, and that’s overall quite sad.

Screwdriver: 6.0 – It’s a pretty good screwdriver.

Tonic: 4.0 – That’s an okay vodka tonic, but it overall lacks enough flavor.

Value: 4.5 – It is rather on the cheaper side, but when stacked against things like Wodka, New Amsterdam, and others at the affordable range – it’s subpar.

Final Thoughts: This can barely make itself a screwdriver, and putting it elsewhere just adds a twinge of awfulness, and that’s like the one thing you don’t want it to do. Sure if you are looking for a cheap punch filler – go ahead – we guess. Sorry, we couldn’t honor this day properly, but sadly that’s par for the course.

  1. Have to mostly agree with you, not a good vodka, even taking price into consideration. Seven X distillation seems to have stripped the flavor away, leaving it simply raw and hot. I found the aroma oily and alcoholic, neither in a good way. Am amazed to see it garner positive (and even glowing) reviews online.
