Nothing causes our site to shudder more than a gin from someplace that has over 200+ years of history. As is most often the case, said gin feels like it was made in the same way, and while there are those who find that preferable – we find it usually translates to a gin that is better served in a molotov cocktail over a regular one.
That is certainly the case here – this gin is downright horrible. It burns, it smells awful, and it tastes like death. It’s lone saving grace is it makes an otherwise normal and basic G&T which is the only possible explanation for it’s continued existence.
What they Say: “For over 250 years, Greenall’s The Original has been handcrafted by England’s oldest gin distillers. Seven generations of master distillers have passed down the unique recipe using only the finest botanicals to produce a gold award winning gin, the heart of the classic gin and tonic”
Taste: 2.0 – To start it’s quite horrific. It truly is one of the worse gins in recent memory on this site.
Aftertaste: 1.0 – The grass is no greener on the other side. In fact it’s quite terrible. This gin is awful.
Burn/Smooth: 1.0 – That burns like a jerry can full of petrol thrown burning into your face.
Aroma: 3.5 – It’s offensive. It’s not the worst gin smell, but by no means is this good.
Honesty: 5.0 – Nothing too pretentious about it being smooth or perfect so they get a mid-tier pass here.
Mixability: 2.67
W/ Rocks: 2.5 – It helps, but then it’s so little, and even what you get feels like a charcoal nightmare
Gin and Tonic: 5.5 – This is, without contest, the best part of this review. Because despite everything else – this is a totally fine and serviceable G&T.
Martini: 0.0 – That deserves a score of 0.
Value: 4.0 – There are quite simply better options for a G&T at this price point. Fact.

Final Thoughts: We don’t always use a Martini in a gin review. Often it’s saved for those great gins or gins that should work there. However, sometimes we review it when we know it will be horrible because while we try to be objective (and we objectively review it as a martini) the desire to force the gin to lose points is strong. Because fuck this gin in particular.
You are correct, it is not the best gin in the world, but only because it is maybe to subtle, as other reviews have stated.
As far as being horrible, if it is subtle, I can’t understand how it can be so horrible. Gordon’s, is horrible, and is not subtle.
As far as ‘burning’, I think you may have grabbed the metho bottle not the Greenalls bottle. Maybe take the horns off your head.
Bought this gin to try.Can honestly sat it’s the worst gin I have ever tasted. Will be pouring it down the drain. What a waste of money.
