The weird juxtaposition of our objective review scorings by distinct categories is that we tell you this tequila does something wholly unique and has great aspects – but you likely shouldn’t buy it. There is a reason for that, mostly because it costs likely a bit more than you’d want it too – but the reasons go beyond some penny-pinching.
The other main one being that this is a tequila that’s meant more as a sipping tequila – which is odd and very niche in a silver – it does make one dream of what the anejo would be like though.
What they Say: “Silver. Aged 45 Days. Certification of Estate Bottling Casa Herradura”
Taste: 6.0 – Nice subtle agave flavor akin to the aroma. You don’t really get any of the other aspects here and it’s rather clean.
Aftertaste: 7.0 – Alongside the low slow burn, there is a lingering smoke and agave flavor that carries for a good long time. It’s not like crazy smoky of course, but it’s there.
Burn/Smooth: 7.0 – That burns, but in a way like almost nothing else. In short, there’s no sharp harsh hit, it’s like a nice long fire. The result is that at first, it’s smooth, but then slowly builds in power – yet never harsh even as it builds to a large tingling feeling in your throat.
Aroma: 7.5 – It’s subtle, but nice and sweet from that agave. You need to dig in to get the smell, but what’s there is good and it actually smells quite delicious.
Honesty: 7.0 – The bottle looks great, and there are no crimes. They are short and to the point about what it is. This means they don’t earn many points, but being positive w/o losses is the way to go.
Mixability: 5.0
W/ Rocks: 3.5 – That fails to be great, it’s just watered down and sadder, only giving you some lingering mint/agave like flavor.
Margarita: 6.5 – That’s a pretty nice margarita – no real complaints whatsoever. It is odd though that this tequila is almost sort of better neat…
Tequila Sunrise: 5.0 – It’s fine.
Value: 4.0 – We got this for less, and if we’re honest our opinion of it sort of soured knowing it actually cost more. This is a nice tequila to drink, it’s unique, and we would recommend it for a good sipping silver, but because it mizes so middling, and costs so much (relatively) it’s sort of hard to say it’s good value.

Final Thoughts: So the 5.5 is really down to this simple fact. We like this tequila, we don’t mind having it and/or using it neat for a few refreshing sips. However we couldn’t really recommend it to others, or for us to ever purchase it again. Maybe if it was just a bit (a lot) cheaper, or mixed a bit better we could say that’s approaching greatness, but it’s not. It will make us one day try the Reposado though (jk. we bought both, review next week)
