Dogfish Head/The Flaming Lips Collab ‘Dragons & YumYums’ Pale Ale

Dragons & YumYums: 6.5 – A few things to note before reviewing. Yes that collab is with the band, and this is a pale ale brewed with a combination of dragon fruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice, and black carrot juice. Which coupled with the art implies that a lot is going on; however, and this is critical – this is NOT a sour.

There is a whiff of bitter, but overall it’s just over the top tropical. With that combo of ingredients and the color of the beer you’d expect it, but it’s truly a sour w/o the sour and just a nice pale ale stuffed with tropical fruit. It’s complex and delicious, and has a theme song?

Price Average: $14 for 6-pack

Prairie Artisan Ales ‘Bomb’ Imperial Stout

‘Bomb’ Imperial Stout: 4.0 – The word Bomb here isn’t just a sign on a shelf meant to catch the eye. This tastes like a bomb going off in your mouth. There’s coffee, chocolate, vanilla, some spice, and overal roasted flavors going everywhere. It is quite simply – too much. Every sip is just ‘WHOA’ again and again to the point where you don’t even enjoy it. Oh sure it’s an ‘experience’ but not what you want ordering a beer, although we guess if you ordered a bomb – you got it.

Price Average: $8
