Puerto de Indias Sevilian Premium Gin 750mL

Nobody expects the Spanish Ginquisition! (We deeply apologize for the groaning sound you just made). Anyway while here in the UK it felt appropriate to partake of the spirit for which England is known for. However getting a London gin was too on the nose so we went to Spain. What we found was overpriced, a little hot, and overall disappointing. So Spain. (We deeply apologize to the Spanish people)

We’ve really had some lackluster results from gins recently, and in our remaining time on this UK trip it behooves us to dig deeper to find that botanical and juniper gold. To quote a famous songwriter – we are now at the stage called the bottom from which we will henceforth refer to when we are much higher up. (We deeply apologize to everyone, just everyone.)

What they Say: “” (Nothing)

Taste: 6.0 – Initially it’s very clean, too clean to be honest. If you’re into that though – sure.

Aftertaste: 5.0 – It reminds you of tonic, and the reason why is likely because this tastes like a bad gin, but less powerful in its awfulness which normally can happen in a G&T

Burn/Smooth: 3.5 – That does kind of burn which was unexpected. There’s almost a kind of heat to it as well.

Aroma: 5.5 – It’s nearly got the gin smell right with the very present botanical, but there’s just that section you can’t escape of ethanol every time you take a whiff.

Honesty: 6.5 – The bottle looks nice, has a good cut and look & feel. They don’t wank or say anything at all for that matter. Spain does – well no effect. Overall it’s slightly good here, but doesn’t do anything to make it great.

Mixability: 4.75

Gin and Tonic: 4.5 – It changes here, and it’s sadly not a good change. Making this what could have been great into a subpar cocktail.

Red Baron: 5.0 – It’s okay.

Value: 2.0 – This looks like it would be a great gin, like if only this worked well straight or a Martini (it does not) it could be worth that exorbant price tag. While this was acquired for much less in the UK, no. This is way overpriced.

Final Thoughts: We’ve had a lot of laughs here today, but you know what’s not funny? Subpar gin. So make sure you tell your friends to not do subpar gin. It hurts you, and those close to you. Most of all it hurts us though because we’ve done all this work to inform the people honestly that this gin is subpar, and like a pot head teenager, you’ve ignored us.
