Ronrico Silver Label Rum 750mL

We have another near no-name brand, owned by the Suntory, a bottom of the shelf rum. Now, sure enough, there will be someone in the comments saying – oh you hate this because it’s low-tier because we’re snooty. We truly and honestly wish this was better, and having gotten rums before like DonQ at the same price we were hoping for it. That hope is dead.

In fact, this was bought for the well-rum of the lounge and because DonQ wasn’t available. As we’ve been on a kick recently of reviewing things that we’ve either bought for years or should have – we figured why not review this since we’ve got it?

What they Say: “This rum is a blend of the finest hand selected Caribbean rums, which reflect our continental skill and dedication in the making of every drop.

Taste: 2.5 – At first it’s bad. And for some reason slightly reminds you of a brandy? It is not great though.

Aftertaste: 2.0 – Here it’s just as awful. It tastes – well almost like how you imagine eating a wet sock would taste like. There’s an overall just off feeling to it.

Burn/Smooth: 2.0 – It’s not smooth. It, however, isn’t burning your throat in the same way it does your nostrils. There is however a sort of long term burning in your throat area though that’s not good.

Aroma: 2.0 – That smells exactly like cheap rum, and if you smell it more than a few times you will feel woozy and a slight burn on the nostril. Super…

Honesty: 4.0 – This is about as good as a continental breakfast in a Motel 6. So piss off with your skill and dedication, because it hasn’t worked. The imagery is simple and acceptable though. The overall look is fairly basic, but in truth, it’s the inclusion of a recipe that doesn’t even have ACTUAL parts, but uses parts for the rum is just weird.

Mixability: 5.5

Rum and Coke: 5.5 – We considered other drinks like a mojito, but tbh that would have likely sucked. Here at least it is serviceable – so thank fuck for that.

Value: 6.0 – That is dirt cheap. We got a handle for 4 dollars more which looking online is about the same. In short, folks if you are looking for a dirt cheap rum to make rum and cokes? Still, go get DonQ because it’s the same price and handles are just a bit more expensive *mic drop*

Final Thoughts: We do hope that you genuinely appreciate our mission here. It’s our job to delve into the bottoms of the shelves and try to find the gold within. However as is the case, to find a diamond in the rough, one must deal with a lot of rough. If you are making drinks for a party that’s mostly just w/ coke or punch and there’s not a better budget option – sure. In literally every other scenario – no.
