Because today’s Christmas eve we decided to review a gift we got ourselves. Don’t worry whiskey is still going to be every other Wednesday, today’s a one-off because this whiskey is rather special. It begins in a Glasgow whiskey bar. Staying over the Easter weekend – Nah JK we’re not a recipe blog. While Aultmore isn’t as well known as some other scotches it should be. It’s probably one of the great whiskeys out there, and if you can find it – a real gift.

Kirk and Sweeney 12 Year Rum 750mL
We had a thought looking at the tag of this rum, and it was – oh like an evidence tag used to identify the poison that killed the Mr. Cottonsword. How prophetic we were. We always strive to find the diamond in the rough, but because such a thing is possible there’s always the wasp in the beehive. Hold on not sure if this metaphor is working.
Old St. Andrews Fireside 12 Yr. Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 700mL
We close out the Old St. Andrews line going from a whiskey as warm as a fire, to one named for the fireside. This is the older 12-year version, but the aftertaste might surprise you.
Editor’s Note: We apologize for the clickbait opening, the writer has been fired.
Glengoyne 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
A most joyous Ludachristmas has befallen us! We start off the year 2018 with a scotch from our annual gathering of friends for the holidays, and as usual, it’s more scotch. (To complement all the other scotch we review of course). This time it’s a Highland 12 Year that has a bit of strangeness about it.
The Dalmore 12 Yr Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
The Dalmore has always been in the peripheral vision when a Glenfiddich review comes up, but it’s here for a slightly odd reason. Namely the recent movie release of Kingsman 2, of which the first film had a mention of a special version of the Dalmore Whisky – which is how we end up here.
(Happy Christmas btw folks!)
The Macallan 12 Yr Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
We’ve often maligned Macallan in-person as the ‘what those who know nothing of scotch buy and say is the pinnacle.’ which is likely why this is our first review of them. No need for a spoiler alert though – because it’s been maligned for a damn good reason – it’s awful.
Glen Garioch 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
We begin our month of scotch with something a little more on the lower end. Glen Garioch is by no means a bad scotch, but when you compare it to other highland scotchs even the basics of Highland Park are better. If you don’t read anything further just please go find a better highland scotch, maybe an Ardmore or Deanston’s.
Cardhu 12yr Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
Another gift to the lounge (yes all the gifts are scotch, don’t make a big stink about it we like scotch – don’t ruin this for us). Anyway this is a Speyside, and of recent memory it’s actually kind of a good Speyside. There is Talisker Storm, but that’s a uniquely well done scotch even for Talisker, not just the Speyside region.
Nikka Whiskey 12yr Taketsuru 750mL
Our part 2 of New Hampshire scotch adventures, and of course some people just muttered/shouted that this is not in fact scotch. This is due to the fact that it actually comes from Japan despite its presence in the scotch aisle of every store. Japan has been making waves recently in the whiskey market, most notably with Sunatory buying many whiskey making companies, and with it’s own well-known/imported whiskies. Hibiki and this, Nikka.
Grand Macnish 12 Year Blended Scotch Whisky 750mL
Yes it’s more scotch. Come fight me if you have a problem with that. Anyway this week we discuss one of our more recent finds, and one that we love – because so far we’ve yet to find a 12 year (albeit blended) scotch for this price point that we can drink time and time again and still enjoy it.
