Merry Christmas week everyone, before we begin the review of this really good tequila – a quick PSA. This comes in a wooden box, said back of wooden box is only really tacked shut – as such be wary of the back falling out and with it your bottle. We speak from first hand experience watching a ~$200 bottle tumble to the floor (luckily to carpet; unbroken), and if you are reading this before buying and bringing home – just make sure it’s on a secure surface because you really don’t want to risk a drop of what’s inside.

Cantinero Orendain Reposado Tequila 750mL
It’s a bit unfortunate when something doesn’t taste like it smells. This comes up often in spiced rums smelling like a delicious bevy of spices only to taste like sugar – but sadly it’s true here as well. On the whole a tequila that has some smoky aspects to it without it being an Anejo and mellowed out sounds enticing. However the result here is a more on the palm sugary side and is above all – middle of the road. Mixed or straight it simply just does nothing great.
CasAgave Blanco Tequila 750mL
It’s been almost a season since we last did a tequila, but luckily much like how well received Casa Noble was – this too is pretty dang good. If there’s a real complaint it’s how it fares with a bit of ice, or just a tad too much burn, or a little high on sweetness – but these are ultimately nitpicks. (reviews notes) Ah right that’s sort of our whole deal, but considering most often the other part of that deal is wading through the shit to find the shine, well as the gold labeling will prove – this is shiny.
Casa Noble Reposado Tequila
The downside of reviewing things on this site at a moderate schedule is that we’ll often say we’d look forward to trying a similar version of something – especially with tequilas where we’ve had a blanco or reposado and want to try the other (or even the anejo). Then of course time marches on so we come to a situation where we’re like – oh yeah we should do the reposado of Casa Noble given how much we actually like the blanco ver. That was in 2016 which according to our records was over a century ago. Anyway how does the aged version fare?
Cincoro Blanco Tequila 750mL
There are many things that are considered ‘top-shelf’ and are placed there accordingly. This given it’s height (just under 18 inches) sort of demands to be top-shelf, like a “just try to figure out how I don’t go into overhead empty space”. That being said it sort of actually deserves to be there, because giant curved angle modern art bottle aside – the contents within are truly top-shelf as well.
El Espolón Blanco Tequila 750mL
Finally the trio is completed, and according to a minor argument we had with a friend of the site – it’s about damn time. They’d made it abundantly clear to us that for Espolón – the Reposado was okay, and the Anejo wasn’t worth the time or additional funds (agreed) – the Blanco was where the real action is at. Well call us crow eaters because they were entirely correct.
Herradura Original Reposado Tequila 750mL
Alright, week 2 of Herradura (which we still can’t say in a non-derpy voice). This time we have the reposado, now while the silver was light and unique – this is smoky and unique. The main difference between the two though is that additional time aging gives this a character that actually shines through a cocktail – which is a good thing.
Herradura Original Silver Tequila 750mL
The weird juxtaposition of our objective review scorings by distinct categories is that we tell you this tequila does something wholly unique and has great aspects – but you likely shouldn’t buy it. There is a reason for that, mostly because it costs likely a bit more than you’d want it too – but the reasons go beyond some penny-pinching.
Astral Blanco Tequila 750mL
2020, well it’s certainly a new year despite the same old problems going on – a microcosm of this tequila if we’re honest. No part of this is truly terrible (well the price is for what you’re getting) but it is overall just – fine. The same beats told again of not having anything spectacular, burn a little too much, and then to compound the sin – basic ass mixers.
El Jimador 100% de Agave Reposado Tequila 750mL
We’ve previously had the silver version of this (uhh checks the math) 4 years ago. Yikes, this blog got long in the tooth. Anyway, we were not kind to the Silver Jimador, because it has a taste like some hospital floor cleaner, and make no mistake the aging has not fully removed that – but enough to make something drinkable at last.
