Caol Ila is a name even if you’ve never seen it on a shelf or bought yourself (unlikely but go with us here) it’s surely cropped on the list of essential sprits, a common marker in blended scotches, and one of the premiere Islay scotches – (one of the older ones too). We, however, have yet to review it – well until now.

Harpoon Sunset Saison
Sunset Saison: 5.5 – It’s an ale aged in Sauvignon Blanc Barrels, and you do get a white wine sort of carbonated aspect pervading this saison. As for the overall tastes it’s okay, but while this makes a nice sort of bubbly beer – we don’t need a bubbly beer.

Cruzan Origin of St. Croix Aged Dark Rum 750mL
Cruzan is arguably the sweet spot when it comes to reviews on our humble site. It’s something we know isn’t the highest of tiers, but by being such a budget product it begs the question of whether the cost savings there make it worth your money and more or if it’s simply another scrap on the heap of shitty spirits.
Tre Fontane Birra Trappista Italiana Tripel
Birra Trappista Italiana Tripel: 6.5 – When one hears Tripel one often thinks of one place – Belgium. However sometimes the hooves are actually zebra’s as this comes from Italy. It’s a bit sweet, but the wealth of spice, malt, and flavor isn’t ruined, but accentuated by a lack of any bitterness. It has a nice creamy oakyness to it as well, and is rather pleasant to drink.

Mikkeller Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Watermelon Beer
Berliner Weisse Watermelon: 3.5 – Call us suckers, but based on that image this beer should have watermelon in it. Indeed it does, but there’s a tart aspect that’s sort of a quarter-sour-power that kinda spoils the whole thing. It really lacks that sort of nice sharp sweetness a watermelon has, and you wish it was more fruit shandy like instead of a meh sour.

Dry Line Small Batch Hand-Crafted Cape Cod Gin 750mL
The name South Hollow Spirits jogged our memory a bit, and lo and behold – we’ve had their rum. The rum was an overall failure, was barely able to be mixed, and hilarious overpriced. This too is a small batch and is ridiculously priced as well, but mercifully it’s nowhere near as deplorable.
Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. Hylo Sour Ale
Hylo Sour: 7.0 – That is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a sour ale, but you clearly get that unique dragon fruit taste. You also get a bit more of wood than smoke from the barrel aging, but it’s in no way diminished the tart. Overall it’s a damn fine sour.
