Twenty Boat Hand Crafted Cape Cod White Rum 750mL

We should mention at the top that we are a Massachusettes based review site, we should also mention that as far as craft dstilleries go – Mass can go fuck itself. We are impartial and not above giving places like Berkshire a 4. We say this so that when we give this the score it deserves you know we do it impartially.

And impartially this is a load of hogwash. Claiming to be for bootleggers this is instead a wannabee of another spirit that fails to be either. You get none of the small batch moment of greatness, and all of the cost. We’re not sure what the twenty boat name is meant to mean (the company being a vineyard), but we bet their wine sucks too.

What they Say: “Dedicated to all the bootleggers of Cape Cod. For the whole story visit: southhollowspirits.com

This small batch, twice distilled white rum is made from the finest organic sugar cane. The quality of our rum comes from sourcing the finest ingredients. It is smooth, mellow and perfectly mixable. Enjoy in any classic rum cocktail.”

Taste: 4.5 – It is sweet and nice at first, but the agave like flavor happens quick.

Aftertaste: 6.0 – That aftertaste is almost entirely like a cachaca. It’s near minty or agave like in taste, and very potent. It lingers for a nice long time.

Burn/Smooth: 2.0 – It has a bunch of burn going on. It keeps on burning too almost in waves.

Aroma: 6.0 – It has more of a cachaca style smell to it. While that’s not a bad goalpost to hit, it’s a slightly odd one for a white rum. However, over a sweet bucket of nonsense, it’s much better.

Honesty: 3.0 – While we appreciate the ideal of Cape Cod bootleggers. This isn’t a traditional style rum, and coming from some vineyard who decided to make spirits and ‘honor’ some sort of spirit they have little claim too. The look is even classic hipster new-age spirit.

Mixability: 4.25

Mojito: 5.0 – No change on ice so we went with a Mojito. Here it is okay, but not stellar.

Rum and Coke: 3.5 – Because of it not being like a regular rum it’s sort of shit here.

Value: 1.0 – Not in a million years would we ever pay this much for such a shit rum. While we buy to try, you dear reader should avoid this overpriced bunch of bullshit.

Google Shop Average: $41

Final Thoughts: The main lesson everyone can take from this and multiple previous reviews is – don’t dedicate your swill to things better than you. All too often we see named or honored groups tarnished by an awful piece of shit that someone has come along and decided are worthy of their crap. Make your own way, or honor them right.
