Shipyard Applehead

Finally we come to the other flavored beer offered at the Brew Haus, and while it isn’t as tasty as that blueberry beer they show the same level of commitment to their apple beer as well. Our only misgiving is that between the cinnamon and apple flavoring there is too much beer taste.

Shipyard Applehead: 7/10 – Really enjoy the cinnamon they’ve added and much like the blueberry it’s committed to the blueberry flavor though you get more of the beer here. Normally this’d be okay and make no mistake you will sip this and go “hmm I detect hints of cinnamon”, but the beer feels like they used their English bitter here to try and pair with the apple, but it feels wrong.

Google Shop Average: (Prices at Brew Haus for Draught) – $5.50

Allagash Black

Allagash Black Belgian Stout: 8.8/10 – Just really really good. I <3 BEER. It’s dark and creamy, but still flavorful. Considering it’s cheaper than the other two it’s surprising how great this is, even among other stouts. This is what you want from beer, big flavor, a creamy head, and dark richness. We couldn’t be happier.

Special – Smuttynose Brewery Tour/Scotch Ale

So for the next 3 weeks we’re going to be on vacation, and by vacation I mean Beercation. We headed to an undisclosed location at Sunday River in Maine – where there was snow.

Before we got there though we had to travel through a place called New Hampshire and we decided to stop off at a brewery in Portsmouth, NH. Which brewery, why none other than Smuttynose. Fans and those that can use the Beer tag will note we’ve reviewed Smuttynose’s Imperial Stout in our Beer Around the World where we substituted it for English beer – because I hate London Pride.

Glenfiddich 12yr 750mL

Ahh to review scotch again. Well plainly we’ve had quite a lot of whisky this past October, but while Single Barrel is nice – it’s still Jack Daniels, and I will always prefer my whisky coming from across the pond then in the depths of the American south. Unfortunately while we have a scotch here – a single malt as well, there is something left to desire. I never understood why some people would compare Glenlivet to Glenfiddich, because honestly the latter is merely average.

New Amsterdam Vodka 750mL

Since we found it almost a year ago we’ve hailed New Amsterdam’s Gin as one of the “Best things about doing Booze Reviews.” it’s the reason we do this, because not only can we find the best tasting stuff we find something that completely changes the way we view spirits. We now subconsciously rate gin as yes it’s good, but is it twice as good as New Amsterdam, because that’s the price point it has to beat.
