The name South Hollow Spirits jogged our memory a bit, and lo and behold – we’ve had their rum. The rum was an overall failure, was barely able to be mixed, and hilarious overpriced. This too is a small batch and is ridiculously priced as well, but mercifully it’s nowhere near as deplorable.

Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. Hylo Sour Ale
Hylo Sour: 7.0 – That is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a sour ale, but you clearly get that unique dragon fruit taste. You also get a bit more of wood than smoke from the barrel aging, but it’s in no way diminished the tart. Overall it’s a damn fine sour.
Price Average: $9
Bird Dog Kentucky Blended Whiskey 750mL
Maybe it’s the whole BMD incident from last week, but this being a blend of whiskey and other spirits (not the same thing, but the aroma and taste make it hard to discern.) Apologies we’ve not made it clear – this is a blended whiskey. However as we found out via the back – it’s not a blend of many whiskeys but a blend of bourbon and neutral spirits.
Robinson’s Brewing Trooper – Light Brigade Golden Beer
Light Brigade Golden Beer: 5.5 – It’s a nice hoppier beer, while not being too crazy hopped or bitter. It’s not exactly an overall enjoyable beer, the kind you’d enjoy one of, or one once in a while.
Price Average: $5

Privateer Silver Reserve Rum 750mL
It’s not explicitly clear that this is the same company, recipe, facility or really anything to be tied to Andrew Cabot. (Quick Research Break) Ahh, it’s the ancestor of the current owner – okay that’s enough. Sadly if we had to sum up this rum that phrase ‘that’s enough’ is oddly poetic.
Southern Tier Brewing Co. Barrel House Series Sapsquatch Barleywine
Sapsquatch: 3.0 – It is simply far too much going on. The maple syrup, the barrel aging, add all that to a barleywine and it’s a slightly sugary mess of a beer that’s rough to drink. This is maybe a half pour kinda beer, but it’d be difficult to recommend.
Price Average: $14

Grimm Strawberry Rebus Sour Ale
Strawberry Rebus: 6.0 – There’s just a tad too little strawberry in this. It’s overall a nice sour ale, not too crazy or tart, but overall you wish that either there was another aspect to the strawberries here or lean into it all the way.
Price Average: $14

Brixton Mash Destroyer Bourbon & Rum Mash 750mL
Right. So here at Honest Booze Reviews often a bottle is grabbed based solely on the criteria ‘don’t recognize that’. Now often this can mean we’ll end up with some weird things like vodka finished in cognac, berry gins, and peach whiskies. These by virtue of being offshoots with no baseline end up just not being reviewed. This however we decided we should dig into. We’ve often said that some high tier and well-aged rums or cognacs share a lot of similarities to whiskey. So what about this?
