It’s a cold one up here in the Northeast US at the time of review. So cold even the rum is wearing a scarf. (It’s a dumb joke but we’ll die on this hill). Yes our whiskey bender is over and we’re onto rum. Pyrat rum to be exact which is pronounced exactly like you’d think because they couldn’t even be that original over at the ol’ Patron plant.
Omission Lager: 6.5 – Honestly from the onset this seems like a basic lager (labeling, and the possible? gluten-free nature) It’s actually rather tasty, and while not complex or mind-blowing it’s really nice to drink. It’s what you want from a good solid lager.

Red Tape Amber: 6.0 – it is a bit hoppy (which is nice), but is an overall good, solid, amber lager.

Okay, this is the last scotch of our ‘holy baby Jesus the winter months have only been whiskey so far’ we’ll be onto a variety of other spirits starting next week. This was actually picked up as part of a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal with Laphroaig Select, and Ardmore – or as some might say the deal of the fucken year.
Smutty Julio’s: 4.5 – A little over a month ago we had a slightly different version of this, with the addition of being Bourbon Barrel Aged and Vanilla & Cinnamon. While that was sadly lacklustre it was thankfully not overly sweet. A feat that is sort of accomplished here. Listen, this is not a syrup sugar bomb, but despite the layers of complexity this has it’s just too much, for not enough enjoyment. Yes it has depth, but those BBA characteristics almost get in the way of that somehow, and overall you get a beer that is at times too sweet, and other times a bit harsh. We know that a BBA can be done, and done well, but this isn’t it.

Kriek Lambic: 5.5 – It’s got the tart and cherry aspects you expect without going full sour (like a true sour would). Overall though it’s rather basic once you get past that initial brunt of weirdness.

Greetings folks, just a few quick housekeeping things.
The updates started in October are now complete. The new Statistics Page is live, and will now be updated as reviews are released. Second if you’ve not noticed there’s a new coat of paint on the site’s design making it more mobile-friendly, nicer to look at, and more useful. Finally the change in Spirits to the Honesty metric is live on all reviews.
There’s been some other tweaks and changes around the site, and some new social stuff is live. We’ve also set up a few donation avenues for you to use. We keep this site ad-free because we know ads can suck, and also the ads that would be here would be targeted and seem like endorsements, and that’s not cool. We also don’t have a major sponsoring deal or setup that gives us product so your donation literally goes to server costs or being able to review high-priced items. Check the Social Links for more.

A most joyous Ludachristmas has befallen us! We start off the year 2018 with a scotch from our annual gathering of friends for the holidays, and as usual, it’s more scotch. (To complement all the other scotch we review of course). This time it’s a Highland 12 Year that has a bit of strangeness about it.
