Screech Rum 750mL

And here we have a rum, done in the style of the Caribbean, but from Canada – a country that I do not associate with sun, fruity rinks, and warm weather. This though reminds me of Gosling’s and I say reminds, but I actually mean it brings up terrible memories. Continuing with the Irish Whiskey from recently this is again another terrible and sweet spirit.

Between this rum, and the whiskey from Canada – I think Canada should give up on this whole making spirits game, because they don’t seem to have figured it out. Of course this does not include vodka, because as we know proximity to Russia helps your vodka quality increase.

What they Say: “A smooth Caribbean Rum. A memorable Newfoundland Tradition. A truly unique experience!”

Taste: 4.0 – If I was asked for a knockoff Gosling (not the 150 proof of course) this is the name I would give. That’s not a complement though.

Aftertaste: 4.5 – It has a tickling taste here that I’m not fond of.

Burn/Smooth: 4.0 – It burns, but overall it does not kill you.

Aroma: 4.0 – That smell reminds me of Goslings, and mostly bad memories and regrets. I can’t hold that against the rum itself, but it’s sweet of course.

Honesty: 5.0 – Not a lot to shoot itself in the foot, and Jamaica isn’t bad. The name Screech rum though just seems odd, and doesn’t sit right with me. I like the look of it though.

Mixability: 3.0

W/ Rocks: 1.0 – That makes it apocalyptically worse. I normally do 2 sips for these, but fuck that noise.

Rum and Coke: 5.0 – This makes at least an okay Rum and Coke.

Value: 3.0 – I would not recommend this rum to others to buy, especially when things like Gosling are much better even if it’s a bit more.

Final Thoughts: I bought this as decanter filler, and at least it will do that for quite a while, because I can’t see myself wanting to drink this.
