I wish this was called Cane Run Sugar Cane Rum just for the wordplay alone. In short though we have a non-gimmicky fairly standard white rum that does not do much to not fade into the background of where it sits on a store shelf. Not that we take issue with that – some of our favorites barely standout, and the few with pizzazz are often left wanting in other areas.

Ron Medellin Anejo Rum 750mL
This was a gift to the lounge, and while I am always gracious to accept gifts I knew almost instantly this was a mistake. Especially when once again I have encountered the new dreaded style of pour-sprout that requires a kickstart. Yes folks once again we have another spiced rum (apologies for all of the scotch we just finished).
Don Q Gold Rum 750mL
Now here’s the part where I had intended to tie this to one of my goto rums (for silver/white) that would be a constant recommendation for readers of this site – which is Don Q. I would then say that despite this I am not a fan of the gold. However like trying to flip an omelet overhand I have quite the egg on my face, and I will make sure to review the clear spirit in the future.
Screech Rum 750mL
And here we have a rum, done in the style of the Caribbean, but from Canada – a country that I do not associate with sun, fruity rinks, and warm weather. This though reminds me of Gosling’s and I say reminds, but I actually mean it brings up terrible memories. Continuing with the Irish Whiskey from recently this is again another terrible and sweet spirit.
Gosling’s Gold Bermuda Rum 750mL
It’s been a while singe I last looked to buy Gosling’s (my days of drinking 151 are long over). However I decided to see what their gold would taste like (although I feel they should have called it their red). Not to spoil but when I tried Gosling’s 151 I was taken aback with how sweet it was as well, and that trend seems to have continued.
Old Monk Very Old Vetted XXX Rum 750mL
Well this week I was willing to try something new, and figured maybe a nice sipping rum was in order. I’d seen the Old Monk a few times, and it always intrigued me. Not because of things like Trappist ales, where I have this notion that for some reason monks are the best at getting smashed, but because I like the look of the bottle.
Admiral Nelson Premium Spiced Rum 750mL
Well continuing where the Lady Bligh left off let’s move on to some more spiced rums. The good news here is that it doesn’t not have an awful aftertaste, by which I mean it just really has no taste. Unless vanilla is a taste, then it has a lot of that.
Durango Silver Tequila 750mL
Okay again let’s get back to where we left off, by slowly reviewing more tequilas and rums, and because we’re not spending 60+ we regret the decision. Darn Justice got in my head and now I have ruined the article before the jump.
