If you’ve never been on a riverboat – it’s objectively okay. Sure it feels nicer than say a regular ferry, and it’s certainly got some historical interest – but then so does a clipper ship. The point we’re very long-windedly trying to make is that it’s nothing special. This is because it makes a perfect segue into this Riverboat whiskey.

Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye 100 Proof Whisky 750mL
A rye’s always a fun review in the lounge as it’s often accompanied by one of our favorite cocktails – and Old Fashioned, or as we like to call “The Litmus Test for Bars and Those Who Tend Them.” No in our minds when one asks for an ol’ fashioned you should be greeted with 1 question which is – which whiskey? The acceptable replies being a named bottle that you’ve already spotted, rye, or top-shelf rye.
Bulleit Rye 12 Year Old Straight American Whiskey 750mL
So we have recently had the Bulleit 95, but thanks to our Father’s Day gift of whiskies to recommend we have the 12 year and figured we’d put this one on the usual Wednesday. This too unlike Cascade was also just a sample size, but unlike that French Oak Crown Royale – we wish we had a full bottle of this.
Bulleit 95 Straight American Rye Frontier Whiskey 750mL
It’s a lesson once again in well-known obscurity as we once again have something to review that we here know well enough about, something we’ve carried in our bar and ordered in others, and yet something that for some reason hasn’t made it to this damn website. So let’s hear it for Bulliet rye for being all the rye you ever truly need, but maybe not what you want.
Tincup American Whiskey 750mL
It’s been a minute since we’ve had something that is actually this well liked, but to give away too much at the beginning – Tin Cup is a good whiskey. That’s not to say it does not have its faults. While no single aspect of Tin Cup makes it exceptionally amazing, it is a solidly good whiskey, and it’s only true complaint comes in trying to change it.
Sagamore Spirit Rye American Whiskey 750mL
Well, folks, we’re not going to lie to you. The next few weeks around here are going to have a prevailing theme, and that theme is Whiskey. Due to the site updates changing the typical review seeking, and because we are prepping some special December goodness the old fallback of whiskey dominated reviews reigns again. We have at least been kind to break it up instead of being scotch every week, which leads us here.
Rough Rider Bull Mouse Three Barrel Rye Whiskey 750mL
Alright I need to get my thoughts about this before the fold as there will be a treat for you. Speaking of treats this whiskey is certainly one for your tastebuds, of course that’s if you consider being kicked in the teeth as a treat. This is not a whiskey you throw into a cocktail or have when you want a calm sipping whiskey at the end of the day. This is a bar whiskey that you have when you want to wake up or if life has gotten just a little too boring.
Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey 750mL
It had been a long time since we had a proper rye in the lounge, but summer old fashioned’s are the best kind. Sadly though this is just an overall piss poor Rye. I sort of expected it with the reduced price tag (although on average I got a ‘bargain’) This is not what I was hoping which was a Rye counter to my Old Grand-dad.
