Old Grand-Dad Whiskey 86 Proof 750mL

Now sit down squirts because ol’ man Buffalo has got some stories to tell. Back in the war – kid voice: “ which war?” – the WAR WITH CANADA ya brat! Anyway back in the war only 3 things kept you going – the promise of your woman back home waiting for ya, the knowledge that your bullets, knives, and fists have killed more Canadians than you’ll remember – and whiskey – good old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Why I remember when I was a little tyke – just like you. My grandpa left me a bottle of Old Grand-Dad Whiskey one night when I was cleaning the horses. We never saw him again after that, but I’m sure he’s with the angels now – with my grammy. – kid voice: “Poppie why are you crying?” – shut your damn mouth before I fill it with my fist.

Right the war – ahh yes we drank whiskey then, and we sure as shit didn’t drink anything else. No we weren’t gonna bust out glasses for fancy wines or nothing. We drank hard whiskey for hard men, who’ve seen far too much Canadian blood.

I had kept myself a sleeve of Old Grand-Dad with me at all times – to remind me of grand-dad, it was a simpler time. It never steered me wrong, cept that time I was drunk and shot my left foot off. Boy that was a helluva hangover. – kid voice: “What’s a hangover?” – IT’S WHEN IT’S 6 IN THE GORRAM MORNING AND SOME LITTLE SHIT BLARES JAPANESE CARTOONS FROM THE TUBE.

What they say: “Since 1882, the unique marriage of body and flavor in Old Grand-Dad whiskey has been the standard by which all others are judged.”

Taste: 6.0 – It tastes a lot like Jack Daniels Black Label. Not a killer whiskey, but it’s good.

Aftertaste: 6.5 – We like the lingering taste of the sour and smoky, though William places it again on par with Jack Daniels.

Burn/Smooth: 4.83 – Standard American whiskey burn. Warm finish but fuck your throat style.

Aroma: 5.83 – Smells like Jack Daniels (Read: Teen Spirit). It’s fairly average in terms of smell.

Honesty: 8.83 – The picture describes exactly what you are getting. It has an old granddad on it which is the point. Also a horse drawn carriage with casks of whisky. Old style writing. It gives you a feeling of what this whiskey will taste like and then does exactly that. The scores reflect this.

Mixability: 7.58

w/ Rocks: 8.167 – It turns a bourbon with that burn into a whiskey with little burn and smoky character. Damn good, has just a great taste on rocks.

Whiskey Sour: 7.0 – It certainly adds a little bit more sour to your whiskey sour, but it’s certainly good.

Value: 7.0 – It has a below average price for an above average quality. Great buy. Delicious. Still though every day I’d choose Ezra Brooks.

Google Shop Average: $18

Final Thoughts:

Now where was I? I don’t remember. Hey kid – get me some ice, need to drink some water with my whiskey so I don’t get too hungover. And go clean something – ya bother me. – A short time later – Ahh there’s the nice smoky taste. God I love whiskey, almost as much as I love being an American.
