So the good news here is that if you want something that looks like Patron, is about as good as Patron, costs slightly less than Patron, but above all is not Patron – you are in luck good patron. (Had to do it) I look forward to trying the aged versions of this because while this itself mellows – I want to see if that powerful tastes carries on despite aging.
Make no mistake this is powerful stuff, and while that doesn’t directly equate to perfection or greatness it cannot be denied or ignored. This is the kind of tequila that is truly better than some sweet nonsense concoctions, a tequila that practically shouts ‘TEQUILA” at you, but doesn’t stab you in the throat with a hot poker.
What they Say: “Certified Organic Blue Agave”
Taste: 7.5 – That hits you like a fist of bricks. It’s not a bad taste by any measure, but it’s bold as hell. That alone I can’t fault, and laud it instead.
Aftertaste: 7.0 – It then morphs over time becoming warmer and more mellow in flavor.
Burn/Smooth: 6.5 – To accompany the warmth of flavor there is a nice tingle of warmth on the burn side. There is a slight burn, but the impact of flavor does enough to hide it’s crimes.
Aroma: 7.5 – That actually smells really good. It smells fresh, it’s not overpowered, and it has the right balance of flavor.
Honesty: 8.5 – The bottle manages to invoke the image of Patron without seeming at all like a knockoff, and the cap is a bit weird, but cool. They tactically say nothing at all, letting their tequila do the talking. That alone is why there are more points here because of how bold and brash this is, without any sort of eurotrash or wankery to take it down a notch.
Mixability: 6.5
Tequila and Lime: 7.0 – The power of the tequila with salt, and the power of the lime is intense. I can’t complain though.
Tequila Sunrise: 6.0 – That is an above average and very serviceable Tequila Sunrise.
Value: 5.0 – Part of me feels like near 40 is too much, but then across the board this has scored quite well. That however makes it a par value instead of great.

Final Thoughts: Don’t worry, next week we will actually do a gold/reposado. I apologize for the more silver leaning of the site. Sadly what gets reviewed more often usually correlates to what the bar is lacking. *cough* vodka and scotch *cough*. I promise though it will be an old favorite of the site, although getting back to this spirit, I’d almost be willing to call it a new favorite if the sale price is good.
