I have to admit, while I like the moxie of the people who make this whiskey, and the look of the bottle – I am just not a fan of the spirit itself. I will admit the best thing I did with this was use it for some whiskey jerky.

Bastille Hand-Craft Whisky 750mL
Apparently there is an actual day called Bastille Day (and there go the the French readers), and I decided to actually pick this up on said day. I bought it mostly though because look at the damn thing – it’s magnificent, fairly good value, and if you asked if it was more a bourbon or a scotch I’d wonder if the Frenchie is wearing a kilt.
Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey 750mL
It had been a long time since we had a proper rye in the lounge, but summer old fashioned’s are the best kind. Sadly though this is just an overall piss poor Rye. I sort of expected it with the reduced price tag (although on average I got a ‘bargain’) This is not what I was hoping which was a Rye counter to my Old Grand-dad.
Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club: The Spice Road 1L
As the 1L marker may indicate – this review is a little special. I was recently traveling through London (and apparently will return, so expect a new segment on London pubs to hit this site), and on the way home after some successful business I got myself some duty-free scotch. Of course with many options I couldn’t resist another entry from the Walker line.
Glen Moray Classic Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 750mL
This scotch was actually a recommendation to me by a friend as his favorite budget single malt. My current has been Deanston, and in truth I can understand his reasoning. The problem is that in terms of scotch I’m a highland and Islay kind of man, and while a Speyside or Lowland is always welcome – it’s just not what gets my blood pumping.
Bonded Old Grand-Dad 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750mL
Here we have the more powerful version of a favorite in the lounge Old Grand-Dad. The OG Dad is our common pick for a house bourbon since sadly Ezra is rare to find around these parts. I hadn’t heard about this but bought it purely on it being bonded – didn’t even realize the difference comes from it being a 100 proof bourbon – which I typically am not huge on.
Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750mL
Time for some more higher shelf bourbon – this time one I’ve had a few times, but mostly in bars or tastings. Woodford Reserve has always been an iconic looking bottle in shops despite it’s simplicity, but alas while it wins well in some places – as often in our format it’s not a perfect whiskey by any means.
Four Roses Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750mL
It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve done a good old-fashioned Bourbon review, something to remind the folks at home that while I may travel the world of spirits – my heart beats to the ol’ red, white, and blue. I’ve tried many Four Roses (Recall having a flight of them during a business trip in Kentucky), but having not reviewed them – let’s put them on the board.
Crown Royal Deluxe Blended Canadian Whisky 750mL
In our continued efforts to keep branching out and not just review whisky – let’s review a whisky. This time however it’s a Canadian whisky which is at least outside our common wheelhouse. In fact we’ve only done a few Canadian whiskies most notably Canadian Mist which sadly proved rather mediocre.
1792 Ridgemount Reserve Barrel Select Bourbon Whiskey 750mL
I decided for Christmas time I should get a nice bourbon to round out my usual fare. I’d seen 1792 around, but it wasn’t at some of the whiskey tastings I’ve visited. I will add though that I was not disappointed in my choice.
