Berkshire Mountain Greylock Gin 750mL

You could say this gin is a local affair for this Massachusettes based reviewer, but they’re so far west it might as well be Ohio. It’s nice though to see a smaller gin made in the states, but as you’ll see by their text there’s a bit of a quirk here in regards to exactly how this gin has been made.

We have here a gin that is lacking something – gin. It’s simply far too light and clean that there’s just not enough junipers or botanicals there. What is there is also not stellar, and while it makes an okay G&T there’s better options, and going smaller batch? Much better options.

What they Say: “Berkshire Mountain Distillers’ Greylock Gin is handcrafted in small batches. Our proprietary blend of 7 botanicals, packed into a gin head suspended over a pot still, infuses the distillate with its unique essence. We use this time-honored and labor-intensive method to bring you a London dry style gin of exceptional quality.”

Taste: 6.0 – It’s actually fairly sweet and light. A bit of juniper reminds you it’s a gin, but sadly the botanicals are marred by the aftertaste.

Aftertaste: 3.0 – There’s just an off botanical taste. It’s overall not a great tasting gin.

Burn/Smooth: 7.0 – It’s actually fairly smooth to drink aside from the slightly off aftertaste.

Aroma: 4.0 – It has that London dry style, but it’s a little too clean and feels more like a vodka.

Honesty: 7.0 – “First legal distillery since prohibition” and “Established 2007” – Hey uh, hey – hey Berkshire? Have you been making illegal gin from 1920-2007? Have we solved a crime here? Otherwise, besides how honest you are about felonies, the exceptional quality is the only demerit here.

Mixability: 6.25

Gin and Tonic: 7.0 – Overall that’s actually really what you want in a good G&T. Don’t let the gin overpower, but also don’t disappear. It’s a nice G&T and thankfully this gin serves a usage here.

Martini: 5.5 – That’s just a regular martini. It’s nothing to write home about, and that’s really sad.

Value: 3.0 – Yeah. Listen it’s clearly a small batch gin, and therefore has the small batch pricing. Overall the sheer smoothness makes this a bit atypical in calling this terrible. Thirty dollars though is simply too much.

Final Thoughts: Okay then, we come once again to the end of our review here in a typical mood. Disappointment, a minor reprieve in the usage of a cocktail, but poorer both in money and soul. For you, though our hope is that you take a look at Greylock gin, and move on down the line.
