The Knot Irish Whiskey 750mL

I have to admit, while I like the moxie of the people who make this whiskey, and the look of the bottle – I am just not a fan of the spirit itself. I will admit the best thing I did with this was use it for some whiskey jerky.

As a spoiler I could not find a site for these guys, and when I checked the link on the bottle there was nothing. What I did find was some Amazon reviews that were about as kind as we are, and they too were not a fan of sweet this ‘whiskey’ is. My suggestion – use this as a sweet cooking whiskey for all your marinating and syrup/sauce needs.

What they Say: “By cracking this seal of The Knot you accept that drinking is never to be taken lightly and promise to act in a responsible fashion-not like some blithering idiot. You promise to drink The Knot straight-up in a proper shot glass, rather than mixing it in some sort of novelty, tiny umbrella, fruit fiasco. And finally, you vow that you will never drink to anything that you are not prepared to go through with. If, in any way, you are not willing to abide by these conditions, by all means, please refrain from opening this bottle!”

Taste: 5.0 – Again it’s just overly sweet here to the point where I’m really not a fan of this.

Aftertaste: 5.5 – It gets a bit of uptick of flavor it, but that sweetness prevails.

Burn/Smooth: 6.5 – It’s smooth of course, but the reason behind it is quite sad.

Aroma: 5.0 – It’s some sort of caramel/butterscotch/vanilla smell. It’s quite nice, but it lacks any sort of whiskey aspect and for the most part is just an overly sweet aroma.

Honesty: 4.0 – I will admit to appreciating their position on tiny umbrella fruit fiasco (my new band name), this looks nice, but as an actual Irish whiskey it falls so short. It also lacks the sort of power from a label and literature it provides.

Mixability: 4.5

W/ Rocks: 5.0 – It makes the aftertaste more of the overall taste, but still. They say to not put this in some sort of sickly concoction, but I fear that’s because they fear it would become a sugary mess. This is more a rum in my mind.

Whiskey and Coke: 4.0 – Don’t do this with Pepsi, because my god I needed to add a lime just to detract from the sweetness.

Value: 4.5 – If you are looking for the sweetest Irish whiskey and like your spirits to be literal – then that’s still an above average value.

Google Shop Average: $27

Final Thoughts: I feel like this is a big dog yelling at you from behind it’s fence, but the second the gate opens and you step in it rolls over and is the kindest animal ever. The problem is that is not what I want from a whiskey, and you can’t pet whiskey. (Not true, but you might be an alcoholic)

  1. The Knot is NOT Irish whiskey, it’s a liqueur like Grand Marnier, Drambuie, etc. Notice it doesn’t have “Irish Whiskey” printed on the label, only mentions “Irish Spirits”. Since it’s flavored with honey and herbs, it’s not allowed to call itself Irish whiskey. Binney’s and BevMo have it wrong also, probably partly intentional like the bottler of this stuff—my guess is it’s sourced alcohol with color and flavors added just before bottled.

  2. Never claims to be an Irish whiskey. It does claim to be a whiskey based liqueur made in Ireland. It’s an Irish drambuie, in my opinion.

  3. Terrible. I fell for the placement in the Irish section of the liquor store. Too sweet. Doesn’t mix with anything to make the nasty sweetness go away. Tastes like low end hand sanitizer smells. I’ll choke down this bottle, or use it for a molatov cocktail, just because I refuse to let alcohol go to waste.

  4. The funnest thing about this whiskey review is that The Knot isn’t actually a whiskey and doesn’t actually claim to be. It is a whiskey liqueur. I don’t think you will find the word whiskey anywhere on the bottle.

  5. It’s a “Liqueur” (K)not a Whiskey and this stuff makes the BEST Irish Coffees and as a 6am Bartender I can tell ya we go through a Liter or more a day with my Knotty Coffee alone then we have the Knotty Pine, Knotty Wayne, Make Me Knotty and the I’m Knotty…… It’s very sweet and if you’re expecting whiskey this is knot for you, it’s more like the Captain Morgan’s of Irish Whiskey or like Grand Marnier….. I love my Knotty Coffee!

  6. Sorry guys from a woman’s point of view LOVE it in a shot glass, the best what ever you want to call it.
I live in Ca and can’t find it anywhere, please help any suggestions.😫
