Berkshire Brewing Co. Drayman’s Porter

Drayman’s Porter: 7.0 – While I can truly enjoy a very complex, or heavy, or even a truly coffee porter, it’s great when someone just makes a good porter. In truth this overall is closer to a 5, but the aftertaste is very enjoyable, and at the Berkshire cost it’s always the beer that makes even me have to truly decide over something new, and something good at a better price point.

Stock 84 Brandy 750mL

Expanding our repertoire of brandies we come to something that by the numbers is not a complete failure, yet it’s not something you would likely want to buy and drink. I couldn’t find an online presence to these guys, and I’m not sure if that’s because the ‘130 years of tradition’ means they’ve not found the internet, or if like many other backdoor low-tier spirits it’s been made for profit not to be a product.

Atlantic Brewing Co. Bar Harbor Real Ale

Bar Harbor Real Ale: 3.5 – It is a first an otherwise unremarkable brown ale. The only thing that sets it apart is what they call ‘hints of caramel’ which is code for – we burn some sugar when we make this, but keep going. It’s kind of like a sauce that has burned to the pan – as long as you don’t eat the burnt part it’s still ‘fine’, but not at the same time.

Medusa Brewing Co. Dubbel Entendre

Dubbel Entendre: 7.0 – There is some meatyness but also a bit of tart and fruit to this. Its a nice complex dubbel that I really hope I can get in stores as despite being local to Mass, I’ve not seen it before. As for you if you can do seek it out, the complexity it adds with the band of flavors and no true faults in terms of being too ‘anything’ make this a nice find.

Captain Morgan Jack-O Blast 750mL (Special)

Trick-or-treat folks, and no don’t worry we are not playing a trick by reviewing a pumpkin spice spirit. No we were contacted by a taylorstrategy.com rep. wondering if we wanted a sample of ‘the first pumpkin spice rum brought to market.’ Of course being good sports we said yes, hoping to get a sample nip. They then sent us a bottle turning this from a ‘hey here’s a thing to try, to I guess we should review this’, and here we are. Now no worries we will continue to focus on spirits instead of niche flavorings (so many vodka flavors), but think of this as a Halloween special where we consider the following as both a rum and flavored booze.

Atlantic Brewing Co. Coal Porter

Coal Porter: 4.0 – So I’m beginning to wonder if they literally threw coal into the batch. Because going down this tastes like a nice standard porter, but that lingering aftertaste might as well be coal dust, like It’s almost eerie how akin to coal it is. It’s not exactly a bad porter overall unless you are a serious anti-charcoal fan.

Green Flash Brewing Co. Le Freak Ale

Le Freak Ale: 2.0 – It’s a combo of a Belgian Tripel and an American Imperial IPA (AIIPA?). Which is actually a good description of this beer. It’s got a strong taste, and I’m sure if you liked it would find this amazing. However I can attest that in my small sample size of a few people (damn you p values!) it’s unliekly you will enjoy this beer. It’s hoppy in all the wrong places, has gravity in all the wrong places – it’s a bastardized combo that shouldn’t exist.
