I know we recently did a Johnnie Walker as a group, but this was another gift to the lounge that we’ve got to discuss. This is a Rye cask finished whiskey which is notable for thankfully not being sherry. The scotch overall is fairly good, but is best treated as something worth trying, and for Rye fans a joy. The rest of the time though – move along.

Dugges HipHipHooray! American-style Pale Ale
HipHipHooray!: 3.0 – It’s overall just a subpar American pale ale. That taste simply isn’t great – it’s not powerful, easily drinkable, complex, or flavorful.
Price Average: HipHipHooray! $14

Element Brewing Extra Special Oak
Extra Special Oak: 4.0 – This overall tastes pretty good, and that oak-y/earth-y flavor is quite nice. However despite a sealed cork cap it’s very likely this went flat as it had very little carbonation and felt more syrup-like. In the future if we can try this again, or find a draft we will issue a correction, but at this time it’s possible this rating is accurate.
Price Average: Extra Special Oak $13

Havana Club Anejo Blanco Puerto Rico Rum 750mL
This was bought purely as an easy to review rum from a few nips to make judgements and cocktails without knowledge of it’s importance. We’ve often lauded the superiority of Bacardi that is mostly unwarranted, but it seems we weren’t alone. Truly there are 2 names of rum in Cuba, and this is the other. SHIT. We got the Puerto Rican version.
Timmerman’s Blanche Lambicus
Timmerman’s Blanche Lambicus: 5.0 – It’s got the lambic and white ale quality, it’s a bit pineapple if not other tropical flavoring. While it may be easy to drink its not fantastic. Overall fairly standard lambic ale.
Price Average: Timmerman’s Blanche Lambicus $14

Stone Xocoveza Winter Spiced Mocha Stout
Stone Xocoveza: 3.5 – Oh god the amount of coffee and mocha there is obnoxious. A coffee flavored beverage can often be okay, but this bitter and dark-chocolate, and spiced monstrosity is for people who want to appear to drink beer. The problem being those people hate beer, and now we’re catering to them. The small number of points here is purely for a serious coffee lover would enjoy this enough to balance the score a little.
Price Average: Stone Xocoveza $16 for 6-pack

Laphroaig 10 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750mL
So we’ve actually done 4 different Laphroaig reviews. (The Select, Three Wood, An Cuan Mor, and 15 Year); however despite having bought this very whisky multiple times in the lounge – it recently came to our attention it hadn’t been properly reviewed. Time to solve that. Laphroaig’s 10 year is most notably for being a constant companion in the Buffalo Lounge, not a year goes by without it gracing the shelves for a few short months, and that alone is a true marker of quality more than the other transient spirits in the lounge.
