KAH Reposado Tequila 750mL

This week to break up the vodka shit reviews (I swear next week is not on the bottom shelf, but the top) we instead review a top shelf vodka that can certainly be described as unique. If only because I can imagine a drunk 50 cent asking: WHERE’S MY SKULL.

Btw, I got one of the mini-bottles, and even that is corked – which is adorable. We actually tried this at a Wine tasting, and I seriously considered buying it then and there, but opted not too.

In hindsight the slightly reduced price at the tasting (like 2 bucks) I should have pulled the trigger because this is not only a great tequila, but even as they write, the bottle is half the purchase,

What they Say: “ The Juice
This ultra smooth, and ultra high•proof tequila (the highest proof tequila available) slips slowly down the walls of the glass demonstrating its powerful personality. Full body, intense full agave flavor. Aged for ten months in French limousine casks, where it acquires subtle hints of vanilla and caramel. 2010 Spirits of Mexico Tasting Competition — Bronze medal
The Bottle
El Diablo – The use of devil imagery was inspired by Day of Dead celebrations in Peru. The festival takes place the week before November 5th on the banks of Lake Titicaca. The traditional dances (complete with dangling red crucifixes) are rumored to be led by the devil himself. Traditional dances are dedicated to Satan. This region of Peru is mostly a mining area and workers spend much time underground. According to ancient Incan beliefs, Satan lives underground making the mine workers very vulnerable to his powers due to their daily proximity. The festival is designed to honor Satan, thus keeping the workers safe. They even pour tequila on the ground for the devil to drink. ”

Taste: 5.0 – It starts off a bit light for a brief second, but then.

Aftertaste: 8.0 – The power and agave come, and normally this is where they go wrong, but here it’s beautiful.

Burn/Smooth: 7.0 – This goes down like silk. There’s a bit of kick and some warmth but it’s all enjoyable.

Aroma: 8.0 – This smells amazing. I am not a fan of tequila, but this has hit the right balance of agave and other flavors that I want it.

Honesty: 7.0 – It is a day of the dead style skull. Some might find that gimmicky. I say – bitch I have a painted skull container of tequila with me. Honestly I kind of wish I had springed for the regular bottle, and one day I might just to have it. Admittedly they wank a bit, but this is something you can have in your house long after finishing it.

Mixability: 6.67

W/ Rocks: 8.5 – Holy shit, that is everything I want in a Tequila on the rocks.

Tequila w/ Lime: 5.0 – I only give it such points because in truth this isn’t a shot glass tequila, and the lime is too strong here.

Tequila Sunrise: 6.5 – While it makes a good sunrise, this truly is an ice-only tequila.

Value: 4.5 – That is quite a pretty penny for a tequila, but to a degree when I’m normally done with a tequila it goes to recycling, whereas here it goes to Halloween decorations. In that respect it’s actually not that bad to get that, and good tequila.
