McKenzie-Mueller 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon – 750ml

While we’ve been really good at reviewing spirits every week, expect wine to become more prominent, especially with Weekly Wine now normally wines will get a letter grade, and maybe a few words. For this wine though which was a very special find in my basement we decided to do a full-blown Honest Booze Reviews style review. Enjoy.

As men, we love steak. That is a given. However, as sophisticated gentlemen as well, we know when we need to have a wine that will go with meat and that some red wines are superior to taste with a nice cut of red meat. So, from the Buffalo’s house to our apartment next to beautiful honeymoon steaks from Fairway Beef (a shout out so we could potentially get sponsored for a Food Reviews segment) we bring you a delicious wine with nothing on the bottle but the name.

Taste: 7.875 – Very sharp taste not awful just sharp, Woody kind of taste comparable to scotch. Remember: anything above a 7.5 for our group is pretty much a must try.

Aftertaste: 8.125 – Some fruit, woody flavors, and happiness woody in will’s pants. Not dry. We all really liked it.

Smoothness: 7.75 – As we put it so eloquently “this motherfucker…” as far as other wines are concerned. Initial sting, goes down nice and smooth.

Aroma: 7.16 – Smell of booze and grapes, Like Jolly ranchers. Very bold fruity smell. Good smell, but there’s a lack of other smells, it’s not a very complex smell despite being nice.

Manliness: 5.25 – It does not flaunt anything or say what you should feel it tastes like and for that we commend it but it is so neutral that it is hard to go anywhere above a 5.

Mixability: 8.375

w/ Fairway Beef Honeymoon Steaks: This was superb! As Buffalo wrote: “FUCKEN 9!” and as I said in common terms: “This almost made me cum…”

Value: 4.83 – Really good, tasty but for 50 bucks that’s a bit too high. You can get something much cheaper for better or comparable. Like unless it comes with a handjob it’s not worth it. Since it was free for us though – very well priced.

Final Thoughts (On the McKenzie-Mueller):

Excellent meat wine, kinda kicks you in the mouth and stokes your cheek, definitely wouldn’t drink alone, tasty with food, unlike other wines that it doesn’t have the pleasant beginning. Aftertaste is where the nice woody taste comes in and has a very good finish with not dry ending.
