CasAgave Blanco Tequila 750mL

It’s been almost a season since we last did a tequila, but luckily much like how well received Casa Noble was – this too is pretty dang good. If there’s a real complaint it’s how it fares with a bit of ice, or just a tad too much burn, or a little high on sweetness – but these are ultimately nitpicks. (reviews notes) Ah right that’s sort of our whole deal, but considering most often the other part of that deal is wading through the shit to find the shine, well as the gold labeling will prove – this is shiny.

While it is a bit sad that nothing here stands out as amazing (aside from the smell), it’s better to have such small reasons to nitpick. In truth if this simply had no burn at all, or did at least a fair bit better on ice we’d likely be vomiting praise out of our ears here. The singular clear agave taste here on it’s own in a vacuum is second to none, and we wish there wasn’t the rest going on to detract from it.

What they Say: “” (nothing beyond the info on the front and import details on back)

Taste: 7.0 – This is certainly big on the agave push right from the getgo, and you get that sort of clean agave w/ some citrus flavor that the smell promised you.

Aftertaste: 6.0 – It’s almost like the agave flavor that continues from the initial taste blows like a balloon that pops with sugar. The effect is interesting as far as taste goes, but it’s not exactly great.

Burn/Smooth: 6.0 – There is some burn there. The sweetness from above helps and it overall feels smooth, but there’s no denying that twinge of alcohol on your throat.

Aroma: 8.5 – Beautiful clear agave aroma with a bit of citrus. Without a single whiff of harshness this just smells delightful.

Honesty: 7.5 – It looks great, and there’s nothing written there to take anything away. Overall very solid, let the contents do the talking.

Mixability: 6.0

W/ Rocks: 6.0 – So given that twinge of burn this was highly anticipated. However this simply muddles everything together, and you lose that crisp flavor of agave – the effect being chilled, but overall sadder for the ice. Mind you as far as tequila on the rocks go it still gets to be above average on strength of comparison though.

Tequila Sunrise: 6.5 – Of the three the specific amount of sweetness and agave works best here, but then it’s really best served by the freshest citrus you can throw at it.

Margarita: 5.5 – Now initially this was – far too sweet. Now we typically use premade mixes for cocktails in reviews (simply to provide a control baseline), and we can confirm using some fresh lime juice here really brings a lot more enjoyment (some consumer advice for ya) As is you don’t get a lot of the nice flavor you get from this neat as it’s clear the bit of ice and water dampens this spirit.

Value: 7.0 – Now this is interesting, because overall this tequila actually tastes quite good. So long as you also treat it right with nice fresh citrus, and it also won’t steer you too wrong. They could have easily charged another $10 and likely still get away with sales, but they don’t. So while yes it may not replace something like a Milagro in some bars, there are so many worse options at worse prices.

Final Thoughts: As mentioned we use mixes for reviewing cocktails, but normally – well there’s no need for that. Being unleashed to throw this into a Nutri bullet with some ice and fresh lime juice for a frozen margarita is essentially how we plan to spend today’s labor day. With a price as decent as this has – we’d heartily recommend you do the same.
