Orval Trappist Ale: 6.0 – There’s a nice hoppy aspect to this, but it’s not gone crazy with it, and most of that is just a small lingering aftertaste for what is otherwise an easy to drink beer. Beyond that bit of flavor though there’s not much going on and it feels rather ‘short’ and near tasteless, which could be a boon to not realize how much you’ve had.

Chimay Trappistes Tripel: 3.0 – The closest way to describe this is imagine if a tripel attacked you. It’s got the taste of a tripel, but it’s very sharp and upfront about said taste, is not smooth to drink and the taste itself isn’t super delicious regardless. Maybe there’s a reason for not Chimay

Chimay Red: 4.5 – We’ve not actually reviewed Chimay here for some reason. Likely to do with the wealth of belgian and belgian style ales. This though is the standard that most people know when it comes to belgians, and as such is pretty much in the middle

Spencer Imperial Trappist Stout: 5.5 – It’s an okay imperial stout, and much like their ale it’s totally servicable. Certainly not worth the hype or price it carries though.

LaTrappe Quadrupel Trappist Ale: 5.0 – This came to me highly suggested by a fellow member at the wine tasting, but it was just kinda too fruity and banana-y for my tastes concerning quads. It’s certainly not bad, and I see how to the right person it could be great – if that person was a fan of banana beer.

Spencer Trappist Ale: 3.5 – There was a lot of buzz about this in our area – we only bought it during one of our wine tastings because it was flying off the shelf – within the span of 10 minutes 3 packs sold, and intrigued we went to the back and grabbed on for ourselves before they were all gone. I fear that the misplaced hype has colored our review, but even then this is a far-less-superior Allagash White, and is very overpriced.
