Ridgeway Brewery Imperial Barley Wine Ale

Imperial Barley Wine Ale: 3.5 – It’s okay and as a weird combo of an imperial stout and barley wine there are certainly worse ways this could have gone. The problem is that the high ABV affects the easy-drinking barley wine and this is just not great. Also need to deduct from the look meant to be Russian, when it’s UK and imported via Mass.

Price Average: $13

Prairie Artisan Ales ‘Bomb’ Imperial Stout

‘Bomb’ Imperial Stout: 4.0 – The word Bomb here isn’t just a sign on a shelf meant to catch the eye. This tastes like a bomb going off in your mouth. There’s coffee, chocolate, vanilla, some spice, and overal roasted flavors going everywhere. It is quite simply – too much. Every sip is just ‘WHOA’ again and again to the point where you don’t even enjoy it. Oh sure it’s an ‘experience’ but not what you want ordering a beer, although we guess if you ordered a bomb – you got it.

Ommegang Game of Thrones – King in the North Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

King in the North: 6.0 – The barrel aging here adds some sweetness but does not override everything. At least it’s not ruined, but add that to the chocolate and this is a dessert in the glass. Overall could be better, but it is a solid beer as usual from Ommegang and this line of beers.

Price Average: $25 for 4-pack with glass
