Ommegang Brewery Apripeche Tart Wheat Ale

Apripeche: 7.5 – It’s a tart ale with apricot and peach which you can guess by the name. As always Ommegang delivers as it balances that sweet peach and tart apricot. It’s virtue is by not being a true sour, and really keeping that wheat ale like flavor with the additional fruit and tartness. Overall it’s just nice to drink.

Price Average: $10 for 4-pack cans

Ommegang Game of Thrones – Hand of the Queen Barleywine Ale

Hand of the Queen: 4.0 – The last of the 4 pack of GoT beers because we already reviewed one. Man that episode was killer huh? #topical #nospoilers #peaksellout. It appears we finally found it folks – a GoT beer that takes a risk, and sadly doesn’t pay it off well despite the Lannister it’s namesake refers too. This barleywine style is just a bit too bold in flavor and almost even feels barrel aged. We wouldn’t say this is bad, but it does require a certain type of person who likes this style (as in unlike others in this box it’s not a beer for everyone)

Price Average: $25 for 4-pack with glass

Ommegang Game of Thrones – King in the North Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

King in the North: 6.0 – The barrel aging here adds some sweetness but does not override everything. At least it’s not ruined, but add that to the chocolate and this is a dessert in the glass. Overall could be better, but it is a solid beer as usual from Ommegang and this line of beers.

Ommegang Game of Thrones – Queen of the Seven Kingdoms Sour Blonde Ale

Queen of the Seven Kingdoms: 7.0 – Now we are a more long form review site, very rarely paying attention to hip new things, but we have fallen into the Game of Thrones Marketing trap with this purchase. (Being from Ommegang helps immensely) We will be continuing this 4-pack for the next 3 weeks because we already reviewed one.

As for the beer itself as a sour it’s not too crazy, but as a blonde it’s quite unique. The citrus is lovely and overall it’s simply a well executed beer as expected from Ommegang.

Ommegang Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons Smoked Porter & Kriek Ale Blend

Mother of Dragons: 7.5 – Much like Daenerys that title is really really long. The beer however is really really good though, so hail to the breaker of chains. Not a huge surprise as Ommegang even with these beers are middling at worst. But that cherry flavor isn’t ruined by a smoked porter flavor, and it really does blend together nicely. The beer color is also amazingly poignant.
