Alright so let’s get back to the other “HBR reviews a diverse set of spirits except for wait why do they have so much scotch and vodka?” type of review we do. This time with something that I recall hearing about all over the place a few years back.
At the time I never bought into the hype, although for the wrong reasons of thinking that if it didn’t come from somewhere in the Eastern Block it would likely be shit. This has been proven to not be true (at least in the reasonable price ranges, once you want high-tier it’s totally true)
What they Say: “Tito’s Handmade Vodka is produced in Austin at Texas’ first and oldest legal distillery. It’s made in small batches in an old fashioned pot still by Tito Beveridge (actual name), a 40-something Geologist, and distilled six times.
Tito’s Handmade Vodka is designed to be savored by spirit connoisseurs and everyday drinkers alike. It is micro-distilled in an old-fashioned pot still, just like fine single malt scotches and high-end French cognacs. This time-honored method of distillation requires more skill and effort than modern column stills, but it’s well worth it.”
Taste: 7.0 – Okay I’m cursed. Because for 3 weeks in a row we start off with a very nice pleasant even good initial taste.
Aftertaste: 4.0 – Only to have it ruined. To be fair though this isn’t nearly as bad.
Burn/Smooth: 5.0 – There’s a bit of a burn, some nice warmth, and the aftertaste doesn’t kill it going down too much.
Aroma: 7.0 – It’s nice and creamy smelling, which is a good thing as that’s generally what you want instead of a paint thinner smell.
Honesty: 3.0 – The comparison to cognac and scotch is where we go from wank-ish to super wank. Considering how much was thrown around about this a few years ago, and what I have here, it’s overhyped self important garbage.
Screwdriver: 7.0 – It tastes like orange juice, which is the idea so good on them.
White Russian: 7.5 – Okay that is a very nice russian.
Value: 4.0 – And here we come to why despite hearing good things about this, it took us a while. Because it seemed like a relatively expensive American vodka simply would not be worth it, and while I’ve had much better micro-distilled American vodkas, this is not a terrible value.

Well it was either this or Smirnoff that I currently have, but have not reviewed so I’m glad I went with this, but glad to see I was right about the hype not living up.
