In the interest of saving time to those seeking a review (despite the page hits we lustily seek) this Cachaca fails to make a good caiprinha, and there goes 80% of the audience who reads reviews about cachaca. Rightfully so by the way, because if you can fuck up being good mixed with a bunch of limes – you have really fucked up.
I will admit freely by personal bias against licorice, but I will couple that bias with – why the hell is a flavor akin to licorice in my cachaca anyway? The problem with living so far north is often I don’t have a choice in my cachaca and it’s more a random chance find, but I hope one day to snag a top shelf bottle and put a nice high score on this site. (crosses fingers)
What they Say: “Cuca Fresca is a premium cachaca handcrafted using only the highest quality organic sugarcane. Each batch is distilled using artisanal methods that have been passed down for generations, resulting in a superior quality cachaca with an ultra-smooth finish. Saude!”
Taste: 3.0 – That same kind of fruity almost licorice like flavor continues from the smell. It’s not a pleasant taste though.
Aftertaste: 3.5 – It then gets a bit layered, with more licorice like flavorings. Again though I am not a fan.
Burn/Smooth: 3.0 – The burn here while not catastrophic, is still very present, and very really not good.
Aroma: 1.5 – I won’t lie to you, I can’t exactly place what that smell is. It’s sort of fruity, but overall it’s outright horrendous.
Honesty: 4.5 – The bottle itself airs a bit on the side of Euro-trash, and they do lie with the phrase of “ultra-smooth finish”. They also don’t gain many points either.
Mixability: 3.75
W/ Rocks: 5.5 – That makes things slightly better I guess.
Caipirinha: 2.0 – I love this cocktail, but it’s ruined here. I’m sad now. Truly I am. Because at best this can only be used in some fruit-based fiasco of a mixed cocktail to hide everything.
Value: 1.0 – If a cachaca cannot make a good caiprinha – then what value could it possibly provide?

Final Thoughts: Well at least on ice it’s okay, and mixing it with a bunch of juices means it won’t go to waste. I am however sad at the last opportunity for a good summer drink as fall truly begins to settle into winter.
