Dr Mcgillicuddy’s Irish Whiskey 750mL

Well folks this week is Cinco de Mayo, and if like you us you make a social statement about mixing up 2 holidays that seem to be effectively reasons to get drunk – well here’s the Irish Whiskey to do that job. Not that it really does anything else beyond cause inebriation, because this is not the redemption story we were all hoping for.

We’ve said before that finding the spirit that’s dirt cheap or thought to be, but is actually good quality is one of life’s little joys. The problem is in order to find that we have a realm of sadness and regret, which is par for the course with this Irish whiskey, that we’re not even sure if they sell in non-nip form.

What they Say: “” (we couldn’t find a good text resource)

Taste: 3.0 – Basically get nothing instead of some bad smoke.

Aftertaste: 1.5 – That theme of fake’ness from the aroma continues here as there’s something like a bit of sweet whiskey on the aftertaste, but it’s very bad.

Burn/Smooth: 2.0 – Yeah that burns, and burns well. Like a fire, but not a good fire.

Aroma: 2.0 – It smells like a whiskey themed product. Not like whiskey, but like a candle or breathmint or something that someone added a scent too to ‘make’ it smell like a whiskey.

Honesty: 7.0 – This was a name that our friend Mr. William Henri Neve the IVth said quite often that was assumed to be a joke, but to discover it in the flesh – well it lives up to that namesake we suppose. The theme and intro that this is more the ‘bad medicine to cure ya’ fits well here. They also don’t sour it by making bold claims that tehy fail to deliver on.

Mixability: 3.0

W/ Rocks: 2.5 – It does mix it around a bit and lets that smoke really shine. Sadly that’s a bad thing as it tastes terrible.

Ginger Ale 3.5 – That’s passable, by which we mean not awful and still below average at any bar so it get’s a whopping 3.5

Value: 2.5 – Wait. What? $19? Are you fucken serious? They should charge at best 8 – at best. There’s no earth on this planet where that’s a good deal. However we’ve also seen deals for this go for $9. That being said the whim of deal is not what we judge on.

Google Shop Average: $19

Final Thoughts: This review likely won’t come as a surprise to many folks looking into whether this is a good whiskey, and trust us – we wish it was. Hopefully you can enjoy Cinco de Mayo well, because if you don’t buy this – you at least have a chance.
