John L. Sullivan Blended Irish Whiskey 750mL

If you are here for our take on this whiskey and willing to accept us at our word – don’t. If however, you are here for a reason you fully know why (because some sort of machismo old-timey boxing bullshit check-in) then we guess you should read further so that we can wholeheartedly change your mind.

This is a shite whiskey. The taste is closer to a burning barrel than the whiskey it was aged in, and there are no redeeming qualities here. If you’re about to pull some “well this is what real whiskey is, like back in the days of ol’ John L Sullivan” – then you are spare parts bub, and ’bout as thick as a book you’d never read stacked so high it can at least keep your head from falling off.

What they Say: “Bottle: This impeccably smooth small batch Irish Whiskey is triple distilled in copper pot stills and has notes of subtle spice and vanilla.”

Pamphlet:

Taste: 4.0 – It is mild and normal for all but a brief second or two, but then.

Aftertaste: 2.5 – It is all smoke and wood from here though, and not in a nice Islay way more in a briquette open the smoker too close to your face kinda way. It is truly not a nice and comforting thing to drink.

Burn/Smooth: 2.0 – That’s got to be one of the harsher burns we’ve had from an Irish spirit.

Aroma: 6.0 – You really can get the bourbon casking here as there’s a spice like quality here not native to most lighter Irish whiskeys. Overall it is nice enough, but you this shouldn’t be the high point.

Honesty: 3.0 – There’s a half-naked man who’s looking to bare-knuckle fight, and it’s so terribly cringing. The fact that the back also has this with again NO explanation is terrible forcing you to go off the notable facts bullshit which is a load of shite in its own right.

Mixability: 4.25

W/ Rocks: 3.5 – That helps a bit, in much the same way burning a finger you’ve just cut off is helping. it’s still overall just far too much and not fun to drink.

Whiskey and Ginger Ale: 5.0 – It’s okay. Overall it’s simply just an okay cocktail.

Value: 3.0 – While that might be slightly cheaper than some others at this rank – it’s still quite shit overall to enjoy.

Final Thoughts: We recognize that there are only a few short names in Irish Whiskey that 99% of people recognize, and our heart goes out to others that really should be given their due. This whiskey though is past due.
