American Anthem Vodka

We turn this time to a vodka from the homeland, not the motherland. With a good ol’ fashioned red, white, and blue vodka that isn’t afraid of showing it. Let’s not kid ourselves this isn’t going to sell well in let’s say Vietnam, and it’s almost a bit too shouty, but it does give a minor amount to charity and that’s something.

Apologies for the small stain on the right there, but in truth an accidental bit of pasta sauce is so American it’s sort of sweet actually. (A small bit was used to made vodka sauce, but we don’t typically count that towards our mixability scores). Overall we have a decently good, cheap vodka, that mixes well, but let’s see what they’re about first.

What they Say: “Our vodka is 5 times distilled smooth from corn grown in the heartland – always gluten-free and exceptionally smooth.

For every bottle of American Anthem made, we will donate $1 to charities supporting military personnel and their families.

Please visit www.americananthemvodka.com/ to learn more about the charities we are supporting and how you can help those who served.

This is our way of saying thank you to those who do so much.”

Taste: 5.5 – You get a bit of wheat and cream, as well as just a ‘vodka’ taste.

Aftertaste: 6.5 – It goes into more of that nice wheat and cream here, but then the burn shows up to ruin the party.

Burn/Smooth: 1.5 – It comes at you very late with the bur, but boy does it ever.

Aroma: 6.0 – Not a burning vodka smell, nor a super creamy smell, overall it’s just fairly good.

Honesty: 7.0 – I’ll give them donating to charities is always good, that yes $1 seems paltry but that could be the only profitable margin, and that ultimately you are better off doing the research and supporting the right charities directly instead of buying a product. That said the imagery and product here is solid. Maybe it’s because this is reviewed around the beginning of July, but yeah – give what you can because some give all.

Mixability: 6.0

Vodka Tonic: 5.0 – That’s an okay vodka tonic.

White Russian: 7.0 –  At the desire to not get political, for an American made spirit, that sure is a damn good Russian.

Value: 7.0 – Actually that’s not a bad damn price for something of this tier, it’s American made, looks good, and makes a good white russian.

Final Thoughts: Sure it’s not liable to beat the classic Three Olives, but given a chance this is definitely worth your time and money. It’s finally refreshing to point to a non small-batch vodka to come out of the states. (Looking at you Tito’s step it up). Sure Hanger One is great, but not paying the extra 15 bucks is also great.
